Secure and Collaborative UC Data Exchange
As part of the UC system wide Cyber Security Initiative, UCOP Information Technology Services partnered with each campus and the UC Production Control Shared Services Center (PCSSC) to migrate all UCOP file transfers off the existing UCOP server. The project goal is to improve the security of our UC data being exchanged between the campuses and UCOP, by improving the credentials used, protecting data-in-motion, protecting data-at-rest, improving management and monitoring of data exchanges.
Digital Signage: The Benefits and Challenges of this Exciting Technology
Is your campus using Digital Signage to the best of its ability? In this session we’ll discuss some of the Digital Signage technologies used at the UC San Diego campus. The focus will be broad and touch upon everything from simple setups to interactive wayfinding kiosks. We’ll also talk about using iPads for room scheduling displays… something that is quickly gaining traction at UC San Diego.
Endpoint Engineering Panel
The cost of care-and-feeding for user endpoints like desktop and laptop computers and mobile devices throughout their lifecycle typically far exceeds the purchase cost. Endpoint engineering (also called desktop engineering) is the practice of managing those costs, improving manageability and reliability of endpoints, securing endpoints, managing endpoint inventory, and generally improving the user experience of using endpoints. Many UC campuses engage in endpoint engineering activities.
ITS Change Management Journey to Improved Efficiencies: Lean and Agile
Change Management was spending most of their time following up on change requests lacking basic data. We will walk through our journey to improved CR data quality: process, tool updates, training, etc., while incorporating lean and agile methodologies.
Goal: Decrease follow up (both before and after the change implementation from 88% to 25% by April 2018
Why: Improve quality of change request data, faster approvals, more efficient use of everyone’s time
Journey:
Growing a web application from department to system-wide use and beyond
Many shared services within UC start small and grow over time. Given the right conditions and support, services can expand from unit, campus, multi-campus, to system-wide and beyond. Each step along the way presents new opportunities and challenges. I'll share why we expanded UC Recruit and how growth changed the application, the team, our decision making, our process, and our collaboration with stakeholders.
Working Together: A Shared Education Data Solution
UCSF Schools of Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Nursing collaboratively developed and implemented a Shared Education Data Solution (SEDS)--a system to supplement our campus Student Information System with program-specific tracking capabilities to support the needs of teaching and learning. SEDS built upon a web application that was developed by UCSF School of Medicine in 2006. The key principles maintained through development were to leave the majority of functionality intact and to arrive at a shared set of requirements for any enhancements to the system.
People Skills: Creating Breakthrough Communication and Collaboration Across Individuals, Teams, and Organizations (NEWLY ADDED SESSION)
Admit it: You have a certain way that you like to do things. Guess what? So does everyone else! In the foundational development program, “People Skills,” individuals develop an increased awareness of the impact that their behavior has on others, enabling them to strengthen relationships, improve communications, and modify their behavior in order to better work with and understand others. This session will provide an introduction to the program and give participants a chance to learn about their own styles.
Lessons Learned and Best Practices: Getting from ServiceNow PPS Demos to Real Life
Thinking about using ServiceNow to track Resources and Projects? In this panel discussion, panel members from UC campuses will explain their goals, accomplishments, and lessons learned implementing and using ServiceNow for request intake, project and portfolio management (PPM), as well as resource management. An introductory presentation will be given to provide the audience with an overview of what each campus is doing with regard to PPM, Demand intake, and Resource Mgmt.
Supporting Research and Learning through Immersive Visualization
The UC Davis W.M. Keck Center for Active Visualization in the Earth Sciences (KeckCAVES) has been providing cutting-edge technology for interactive visual analysis of scientific data using immersive "virtual reality" (VR) environments to researchers in the UC Davis Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, across UC Davis, and elsewhere, since 2005.
