This session will review important factors and key decisions that have driven our implementation and customizations of the enterprise software (PeopleSoft) our institution uses to track awards and process related financial transactions.  Areas of discussion will include: Chart of Accounts, the structure of Awards and Projects, Generating F&A and Revenue transactions, processing Billing, tracking Receivables and Payments, and Reporting challenges.

Previous Knowledge

The presentation will cover issues and decisions related to system design, gap analysis, customization and processing features involved with research awards and financials.  Involvement/understanding the research award life-cycle and local involvement with related home campus systems would be expected.  No specific software knowledge (of PeopleSoft, for example) is required.

Software Installation Expectation

While this presentation addresses a PeopleSoft Grants implementation at our university, individuals who are involved with supporting/developing applications that track research and other awards, and the corresponding financial transactions and reporting associated with Contracts & Grants, should find this session informative and engaging, independent of the specific software solutions implemented at their campus.
